The castle of Larciano still remains today one of the most beautiful and intact medieval defensive structures present in Valdinievole.

Its perimeter walls are approximately 23 m by 13 m with two access gates. It is also equipped with a keep.

A real feature that gives it an even more proud appearance are the numerous pontinaie holes with support and decorative functions and the imposing 36-meter high tower. The structure was equipped with an elevated internal walkway that connected the four guard posts located at the corners.

The captain's house provided access to the tower, via a drawbridge located 10 metres high.

This beautiful tower was used by the people of Pistoia in the Middle Ages as a watchtower. From its top, in fact, the castle of Cecina di Larciano could be clearly observed and from there, that of Montevettolini, of Monsummano, and so on up to that of Serravalle Pistoiese which stood on the hill that divides the Valdinievole with the plain of Florence-Prato-Pistoia.
