Pieve a Nievole
A small town near the largest marshland in Italy. Pieve a Nievole owes its name to the ancient parish church of San Pietro a Neure, located on the southern slopes of Montecatini hills, along the ancient route of the Via Cassia. It is believed that it had been founded by the bishop of Lucca, Frediano, before the Valdinievole was invaded by the Lombards, in 570.

The first news of the church comes thanks to an eighteenth-century document where the bishop of Pistoia, Giovanni, undertook with the bishop of Lucca, Balsari, to recognize the jurisdiction on the parish churches of Neure and Celle. The importance of the parish grew so much, probably due to its position, that around the year 1000 at least ten chapels depended on it.
