Cerreto Guidi
Parish churches and historic residences between the smooth hills of Montalbano. Cerreto Guidi is set in an area designed by soft hills, dominated by the traditional cultivation of vines and olives. The XVI century was fundamental for the history of Cerreto Guidi because it was characterized by the Medici’s dominance, in fact they where promoters of architectural interventions such as the Medici Complex, which includes the hunting villa - which became the Historical Hunting Museum of the Territory in 2002 - the farm and the monumental access ramps to the villa attributed to Buontalenti. Linked to the Medici Villa there is the Saint Leonard Parish church, whose bell tower suggests that it was born as a chapel of the Guidi castle. Inside the church there are treasures of considerable value, including the baptismal font in polychrome glazed terracotta attributed to Giovanni Della Robbia and a canvas depicting St. Leonard, by Cristofano Allori (1577–1621). Following the ring road that surrounds the complex you can find the interesting Oratory of the Holy Trinity, from 1607. The interior has eighteenth-century frescoes, but the most valuable work is an altarpiece from 1587, signed by Domenico Cresti, known as "Il Passignano". The Sanctuary of Santa Liberata also worth a visit; this building probably dates back to 1336, when, according to tradition, an oratory dedicated to the Virgin was built here to thank her for the liberation of the city from the troops of Mastino della Scala.
