The work houses the marble bas-relief donated by Sirio de Ranieri in 2000 depicting the transport of marble from Monte Altissimo, which was done by ox-drawn carts. The fountain is located at the entrance to the town to commemorate the Via dei Marmi, designed by Michelangelo Buonarroti during the period in which he was in Seravezza to extract marble for the facade of the Basilica of San Lorenzo in Florence (1518 - 1520). The basin was originally located at Palazzo Mediceo and was used, together with others along the road, to water the oxen. The bas-relief is surmounted by the marble coat of arms of the city of Seravezza, the city of the Rose, created by Giuliano Biagi. It shows the Serra and Vezza streams that descend from the Apuan Alps and join to form the Versilia river and blocks of marble, all surmounted by a central rose. The rose, a distinctive sign of feudal cliques and, subsequently, of 'charm and beauty', alludes to the great ladies who stayed there during the Medici era.
