The palace, built towards the end of the sixteenth century on an ancient cemetery, belonged to the Campana family.
Ranieri Campana (1713-1792) wanted a part of the building to be used as a 'lay pious place to be called a conservatory', intended to 'receive and provide with sufficient food and clothing the poor wretches of both sexes of the land of Seravezza, who because of age or physical indisposition or because they are without parents would be forced to go begging in order to make a living'.
His successor Francesco Campana (1726-1802) instead allocated another part of the building for the foundation of a hospital (which took place in 1831). The building was renovated and a chapel dedicated to San Ranieri was inserted in the internal courtyard.
On the facade you can admire a cylindrical clock with three bells and the family coat of arms, the work of Wambert de Neuchatel.
