Francesco Donati, a priest of profound culture and sensitivity, taught mathematics and philosophy at the Scolopi institute 'S. Giovannino' in Florence where he was the teacher and spiritual guide of Giosuè Carducci.
It is precisely to Carducci, who for his works of classicist inspiration defined him 'master of the beautiful style and of the sermon prisco', that we owe the nickname of Cecco Frate. As an illustrious figure of Seravezza, he was buried in the Chapel of the Rosary of the Cathedral of Saints Lorenzo and Barbara.
A commemorative plaque in his memory is affixed to the church of Santissima Annunziata. The street where his house is located, via Donati, in the hamlet of Seravezza called 'Torcicoda', was also named after him.
This last name was also assigned to a street in the centre of Florence.
