The hamlet of Marignana is located a few kilometers from the center of Camaiore, in an area rich in canals and once mills. The current church was built in neo-Gothic style in 1923, while the Parish was established, detaching it from that of the nearby Pieve di Camaiore, in 1952.
The religious building, which stands on the top of a hill, can be reached via a large stone staircase aligned with the gabled façade, in mixed masonry, and without the original plaster. It is articulated by a neo-Gothic decorative apparatus in brick elements. In the center is the portal surmounted by an ogival lunette decorated with a mosaic effigy of the Madonna with Baby Jesus. In line with the portal is a large orbicular window, filled and decorated with a mosaic depicting a radiant disk with the monogram of Jesus in the center: IHS. The interior, with a single rectangular hall with the major axis oriented to the northeast, ends with an apse and is divided into four bays by pilasters that support an entablature on which the cross vaults are set. The bell tower, built in stone and brick, is located in the square, laterally with respect to the front of the church.
Facade
The gabled façade, in mixed masonry without plaster, is closed on the sides by two buttresses, in stone ashlars and brick courses, and ends at the top with a cornice supported by small ogival brick hanging arches. In the lower part and in the center, the entrance portal opens, with plastered frames, framed by a pseudo porch, composed of two buttresses joined by a pointed brick arch, cusped. The portal is also surmounted by a lunette, with a pointed arch decorated with a mosaic effigy of the Madonna with Baby Jesus. In line with the entrance, and in the upper part of the façade, we find a plugged orbicular window, with brick frames, decorated with a mosaic depicting a radiant disk with the monogram of Jesus: IHS.
Plant
The building has a rectangular plan shape, with the major axis oriented from north-east to south-west and the entrance in the latter position. The interior, with a single hall, is divided into four bays by a system of pilasters and ends with an apse.
Presbytery
The presbytery, housed in the last bay of the hall, is raised by two steps from the floor of the hall itself and is separated from the rest of the room by a marble balustrade.
Structural system
The structural parts of the building consist of continuous masonry, transverse arches, beams, vaults and wooden floors.
Coverings
The roof covering is made of terracotta tiles and brickwork.
Floors and paving
The hall is paved with white and grey marble, arranged in a checkerboard pattern, while the presbytery has a white marble floor with red marble tiles.
Decorative elements
The interior of the building is marked and articulated by a plastic architectural apparatus, which sees pilasters dividing the hall, covered by cross vaults, into four bays. The bottom of the walls is finished with a false curtain and the architectural apparatus continues painted on the vaults.
