The small village of Lombrici stands on the eastern bank of the Lombricese stream from which it takes its name. The birth of the village is linked to the destruction of the Montecastrese castle (1225), whose ruins remain on the hill opposite. The church, however, has origins even earlier, given that the bell tower already appears in a document from 1083, which also mentions the existence of a primordial village. The church reappears in another document from 1180, among the possessions of the rich monastery of the Badia di San Pietro a Camaiore.

The church has certainly undergone several restorations over the years and its current appearance is due to the post-war renovations. The gabled façade features exposed stone walls, with the entrance door in the centre, surmounted by a lunette defined by squared ashlars with a Marian effigy in the centre. Above the entrance is a mullioned window with a marble column. The building has a rectangular plan, with the main axis oriented north-east south-west. The interior has a single apse hall, characterised by a mosaic floor with bands and geometric elements. The walls are made of simple masonry, while the ceiling is characterised by the typical wooden truss. The quadrangular bell tower is located on the opposite side of the churchyard to the church. It is made of stone and has small openings, corresponding to the landings, while the bell chamber has single-lancet windows surmounted by oval windows. The roof has battlements.
