The Padre Eugenio Barsanti Museum is located on the first floor of Palazzo Panichi, a historic 15th-century building in the central square of Pietrasanta.
The museum's collection includes personal objects, memorabilia and documents of Father Eugenio Barsanti, who, together with Felice Matteucci, invented the internal combustion engine.
By visiting the museum, visitors can immerse themselves in the life of Barsanti, born in Pietrasanta in 1821. In addition to preserving some of the inventor's memorabilia, the museum displays autographed documents and prototypes of internal combustion engines.
The museum tour guides the visitor through the history of this extraordinary invention, a milestone in the history of humanity, the result of years of attempts and experiments. The decisive meeting with Felice Matteucci led to the creation of the first prototype of an internal combustion engine, marking the beginning of a commercial and corporate adventure that began with the filing of the patent at the Accademia dei Georgofili in Florence in 1853.
The museum displays various models of internal combustion engines created by the two inventors and, thanks to the information panels, visitors can retrace the history of Father Eugenio Barsanti and his revolutionary invention.
