Villa Rospigliosi is set in one of the most beautiful natural settings in the world, the Tuscan hills, a truly unique crossroads of nature, art and history. Designed by Gian Lorenzo Bernini, the most important architect of the Italian Baroque, author of the Colonnade of St. Peter and the Fountain of the Four Rivers in Piazza Navona in Rome.

Pope Clement never had time to live there because he died the same year that the works were started. The Villa, sober and well-matched with the Tuscan countryside, was used by the Rospigliosi family as a summer residence until the early twentieth century. In front of the main entrance the green of the garden is reflected in the splashes of the fountain. On the opposite side of the lawn emerges the Cappella Gentilizia embellished with frescoes.

On the first floor is the Royal Hall, with a ceiling so high that it extends into the upper floor.

This is where the palace ceremonies actually took place.

Large doors with stone frames allow access to the side rooms where, thanks to an expensive and demanding technique, the frescoes were rediscovered.

Through the large windows the gaze sweeps on one side over the Italian garden and the family chapel, on the other over the valley that slopes down towards the Tuscan countryside of Lamporecchio.

On the main floor you are welcomed in the Salone dello Zodiaco, the most representative room of the Villa, entirely frescoed by Ludovico Gimignani.

In the centre are depicted Apollo on the chariot of the Sun pulled by four horses, Aurora with her hands full of flowers dissolving the darkness and cherubs, one of whom has a torch, the symbol of the morning star.

The representation of the vault is symbolically linked to the renewal of the seasons. This motif finds perfect correspondence in the underlying allegories of the Signs of the Zodiac, winged female figures, which mark the twelve months of the year.

The chapel, dedicated to Saints Simon and Jude, dates back to 1675. Here too, the style of Gian Lorenzo Bernini can be recognized, capable of making every space suggestive and welcoming.
The walls are entirely frescoed.

The hall is oval, closed by a quadrangular wall box and decorated with illusionistic squares.
Inside there is a valuable 18th century Marian statue.
