Originally, in 1491, a small oratory dedicated to the Madonna della Pergola was built, by decree of the Archbishop of Lucca. In the documents kept in the archive of the parish of Pruno there is a drawing of the bell tower, which showed the direct connection with the church through a single building, surmounted by a mansard-type turret. However, the current bell tower dates back to 1887. The current church was built in 1930 and was elevated to a parish by Archbishop Ugo Camozzo on December 8, 1964.

Next to the building is the 1974 marble monument entitled 'Soldier embracing the flag', a work by Aldo Pera, bearing the inscription 'Volegno ai suoi Caduti'.
