The house where the famous Italian poet Giosue Carducci was born in 1835 is located a few kilometers from Pietrasanta, in the charming hamlet of Valdicastello. This place, steeped in history and memory, represents an authentic testimony of the deep bond that the poet maintained with his homeland.
The house, now a place of meditation and testimony, hosts a collection of memories and memorabilia related to the life and work of Giosue Carducci. Interested users have the opportunity to book guided tours, during which they can immerse themselves in the unique atmosphere of this place rich in meaning.
Carducci's house, acquired by the Municipality of Pietrasanta in 1912 thanks to a public subscription, constitutes an important cultural heritage. In honor of the memory of the illustrious citizen, the Municipality has organized several solemn commemorations over the years, culminating in significant events such as that of 1907, with an oration given by the poet Giovanni Pascoli, and that of 1985, on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of his birth. In this last context, the conference 'Carducci poeta' was held, the proceedings of which can be consulted at Casa Carducci or the Pietrasanta Municipal Library.
To perpetuate the legacy of Giosue Carducci, the Municipality of Pietrasanta established the National Poetry Award 'Giosue Carducci' in 1950. In 1990, the 'Giosue Carducci' Award was introduced for secondary school students in Versilia, thus promoting a passion for poetry in the new generations.
Giosue Carducci's house in Valdicastello is not only a birthplace of a great poet, but also a center for the preservation of memory and culture, where the past merges with the present to inspire and educate future generations.
