Situated on Col di Cava, framed by mountains covered in vegetation, the Ossuary Monument dominates the plain and the coast below, as a constant warning.
Built in 1948 based on a design by architect Tito Salvatori, it consists of a 12-metre high exposed stone tower supported by four arches, under which is a sculptural group representing a young mother who fell under Nazi-fascist fire, the work of the sculptor Vincenzo Gasperetti.
The base, conceived as a vast panoramic terrace, houses the remains of the victims of the massacre of 12 August 1944. A plaque on the back of the monument reports the names of the fallen who were able to be identified.
