CorchiaPark is the tourist system that offers the cultural and naturalistic wonders of the village of Levigliani and the mountain on which it stands: Monte Corchia.

CorchiaPark offers numerous out-of-the-ordinary experiences: from the tourist route inside the largest cave in Italy, which allows you to reach the exact center of the mountain, to the visit to the marble quarries of Versilia from which you can dominate the entire Tyrrhenian Sea up to Corsica.

A fundamental characteristic of this organization is that it is managed by a cooperative of local inhabitants: in this way, development and work are guaranteed even in the mountains.

The Apuan Alps mountains offer exciting opportunities for trekking, and Levigliani is the ideal starting point to explore this wonderful territory. Here you can undertake excursions through beech forests, reach panoramic refuges and conquer the surrounding peaks.

The excursion possibilities are varied, suitable for all levels of experience and physical preparation. During the summer, Corchia Park organizes guided excursions that allow even the less experienced to immerse themselves in the beauty of the mountain landscape. One option is a short trek lasting about four and a half hours, starting and finishing in Levigliani.

Accompanied by environmental guides from Corchia Park, participants can take a shuttle to the start of the Voltoline trail, where they will begin the climb to the fortified trenches dug by the Alpini along the Corchia during the Gothic Line in 1944-45. This hike offers a stimulating mix of breathtaking landscapes and evidence of the recent history of the mountains, all in a light route accessible to all.

The Antro del Corchia is truly a fascinating place! Its karst system offers an incredible variety of rock formations and underground environments that have formed over millennia thanks to the erosive action of water. Speleologists' explorations are crucial to fully understand the extent and beauty of this underground complex. Each new discovery adds a piece to the mosaic of our knowledge of this extraordinary natural environment.

To date, approximately 70 km of caves and 20 different entrances have been explored and mapped, from every side of the mountain.

The tourist visit of the Antro del Corchia offers a route of about 2000 meters, safe and accessible thanks to a wide steel walkway that ensures maximum safety for visitors. Led by experts, the visit takes place in groups and lasts about two hours. The difficulty level of the route is comparable to a light and short trek, suitable for everyone. It is recommended for children over three years of age, provided that they do not have walking problems or acute heart disease.

Discovering Cinnabar: History and Tradition in the Ancient Mines

For centuries, mines have been the beating heart of the extraction of a reddish mineral known as cinnabar. This mineral, with its vibrant and rich hue, has played a crucial role in the history of Florentine workshops since the Middle Ages, providing the essential pigment for the production of red dyes. However, its importance has evolved over time, shaping the economic and industrial dynamics of past eras.

The visitable part of the mines is spread over two sites: the first, very ancient, offers a rare testimony of primitive excavation techniques; this is one of the few sites in the world where it is possible to observe droplets of native mercury coming out of the rock face.

The second one, instead, excavated with the first rudimentary pneumatic hammers at the beginning of the 20th century and equipped with a system of rails for the transport of trolleys, represents a true testimony of industrial archaeology of the area and inside it various mineralogical rarities have also been found.
