The entrance to the town is through Porta Carraia, known as Porta ai Campi, dating back to 1300, which faces south and is built immediately behind the mass of the parish church.
But this was not the only gate originally: in the walls of Massa and Cozzile there were three gates (Porta Fontana to the West, Porta ai Campi to the South, Porta Pieri to the North) and they were strengthened by seven towers.
