The Monumental Fountain was built based on a design by Professor Raffaello Brizzi, an architect from Montecatini and member of the Academy of Fine Arts.
The fountain features clearly visible bronze ornaments made in collaboration with the Pistoia sculptor Antonio Guidotti at the Capecchi Foundry in Pistoia.
It was erected in 1926 on the site where since 1834 there had been a small quadrangular lodge used for agricultural markets and fairs.
The work, in travertine and bronze, consists of a large circular basin into which water pours from four cups, which in turn are fed by jets of water coming from horns held by cherubs riding dolphins at the base of a central obelisk.
