Much of the territory of Lamporecchio extends over the beautiful hills of Montalbano.
This is a 'designer' landscape whose beauty was loved by noble Tuscan families who built farms, farmhouses, estates and splendid stately villas. This landscape also inspired the genius of Leonardo da Vinci, whose birthplace stands on the slopes of Montalbano.
Also located on Montalbano is the Barco Reale Mediceo, the hunting reserve established by Ferdinando II de' Medici in 1626. Hunting was permitted only to members of the grand ducal family who, in doing so, protected the forest heritage and at the same time flaunted their grandeur.
