The town of Spicchio has been remembered since the 15th century as the organizational center of the Rospigliosi family estate. Above all, Giulio, who became pope with the name of Clement IX in 1667, was the promoter of works that gave life to the complex that includes the Palace (today known as Villa Rospigliosi), the family chapel and the 'Villa Vecchia'.
The Rospigliosi also took care of bringing water to their estate. Water was vital for their agricultural activities and already in the Middle Ages an aqueduct was built that brought water from the springs that were located further upstream.
The route of the aqueduct, contemporary with the Spicchio farm and the Villa Rospigliosi, wound for about two kilometers, descending from San Baronto along a beautiful slope in the middle of the woods, also accessible on foot, until reaching the estate.
