A thousand-year-old abbey, a destination for many pilgrims for centuries and centuries, today it preserves an evocative crypt, partially frescoed.
The church was destroyed on the morning of August 16, 1944 during the Second World War, together with other strategic points in the area, in the same period of another terrible event, the Padule di Fucecchio massacre.
Inside the church there is a wonderful crypt, supported by a forest of small columns with pre-Romanesque capitals dating back to the 9th century, inside which there is the white and green marble tomb in which, according to tradition, the Saints Baronto and Desiderio are buried; on the walls there are remains of frescoes.
