On the old road that climbs from Pieve a Nievole towards the castle of Montecatini Alto, in the 'Pietre Cavate', there is still today a small sandstone boulder emerging on the side of the road, which on its surface, shows to the attentive traveler some large 'coppelle' dug in the rock.
An ancient 'holy legend', widespread among the local population, identifies these holes with 'the knees of Santa Barbara': the patron Saint of Montecatini would in fact appear from heaven in a period of fights to rescue the bells of the parish church, but due to the heaviness of these great artifacts, she would have fallen to the ground several times, leaving these marks imprinted in the rock.
