The funicular railway is a route of about 1050 meters that connects Montecatini Terme to Montecatini Alto and was inaugurated on 4 June 1898.
Even today, the two little trains Gigio and Gigia climb the hill from the mountain to the valley and vice versa, making the connection simple for both residents and visitors, for whom the short but characteristic stretch is a must, being the oldest funicular in the world still functioning with modern systems but the carriages, although renovated, are still the original ones.
