Torre Signorelli is also called Torre di Ugolino Caccini (and not Simoni as is often incorrectly found). Ugolino refers to the 15th century doctor who first wrote about the spas and specifically the famous 'Trattato de balneis' on the effectiveness of Italian spas including those of Montecatini.

At the end of the 18th century the Grand Duke of Tuscany began the reclamation of the land and the construction of personal, public and thermal buildings. In 1905 there was a political territorial division with the creation of 3 municipalities: Montecatini Alto, Bagni di Montecatini and Pieve a Nievole. In 1940 there was the reunification between Montecatini Alto and Montecatini Terme (formerly Bagni di Montecatini). Montecatini Terme became a municipality and Montecatini Alto a hamlet.
