The Section of the State Archive of Pescia, established as a Subsection, initially welcomed the documentation of the municipal historical archive and the ancient judicial archives that were based in Pescia, previously preserved by the Municipality at the Civic Library. This first nucleus was added to the archives of other offices of Valdinievole: the historical archive of the hospital of SS. Cosma and Damian comprising, in addition to the scriptures proper to the institution, also the charters of the guilds and religious companies of the diocese of Pescia;
the archives of the 'podesterie', then magistrates Courts of Buggiano and Monsummano, transferred from the State Archives of Pistoia; the historical archive of Vellano, a municipality suppressed in 1928 and aggregated to Pescia; the registers of the land registry and the new land cadastre paid by the local Direct Tax Office;
the archive of the Geneva historian and economist Jeancharles-Leonard Simonde de Sismondi, full of letters and manuscripts belonged to the famous Enlightenment. Meanwhile, the municipality of Pescia has expanded its documentary deposit, adding the post-unit part of the archive until 1966 and the oldest papers excluded from the initial deposit, except the scrolls, while the acquisition of other important documentations, although small, has further enriched the heritage of the Institute and now, with about 15,000 pieces arranged on almost 1,500 meters of shelving, it significantly covers the history of Pescia and Valdinievole from the fourteenth century to the middle of the last century.
