The origin of the library dates back to the testamentary legacy of Cardinal Romualdo Cecchi, who in 1648 donated his books to the Chapter of the cathedral. Acknowledged by Pope Alexander VII in 1666, the library grew up with seventeenth-century donations by Placido Puccinelli, Andrea Bonvicini and Anton Francesco Pesenti, with the eighteenth-century one by Francesco Forti and with the nineteenth-century one by Senator Leopoldo Galeotti. In the database there are 569 records of editions belonging to the library.
