From the Medici's Villa along the road of the historic center, the route goes southwards opening towards the valley of the Arno river along the hills that define the course of the Filicaia river.
Proceed south for a short distance on the S.P. 31 to reach the town of San Zio.
Once near the church of the same name, you can enjoy the wonderful view of the valley of the Filicaia river, framed in the distance by San Miniato from which stands the tower of Federico II.
Continuing south on the 'S.P. 112 della Motta' you arrive up to the locality of Montauto where, on the left, we will find the intersection with a white road that we follow inside the valley of Filicaia.
You reach an ancient road that connects the bottom of the valley with the villa of Colle Alberti, a building that dominates the top of the homonymous hill near the village of Bassa.
The villa is a farm where the silkworm was bred until the early 1950s, and inside the villa there is a private museum with a collection of historic farm equipment.
Once you reach the top of the hills you proceed north through the local road along the ridge that develops along the ridge that divides the valley of Filicaia from the valley of the Rio Ganghereto.
From here we return to San Zio and then to the Villa of Cerreto Guidi.
